Hamburg Harbor Festival


Every year, the city of ham gets down and gives itself a pat on the back just for being itself, and why not. Hamburgs harbor is first and foremost the reason for the cities existence. It is the second largest port in Europe and the largest in Germany. Apart from exporting the worlds Mercedes Benz, Airbuses and fine ales, it was the departure point for German families beyond count to the Americas. About 51 million of them. There descendent's would go on to make up around 17% of the US population. John Rockefeller, Dwight Eisenhower and William Boeing amongst them.

But that was all ages ago, what that means today for the Hamburgers is another occasion for a party outside.Time for biers, fische brotchen, gherkins and song. Stables of Hamburg good times.

The chaps and chapesses in this shot were singing, well I am pretty sure, the Hamburg anthem. Its a great song that one needs a large mug of ale, arm around a partner and then swing arms in joyas fashion schlepping ale everywhere.

 Gingerbread house were you buy gingerbread hearts for the flower princesses. But maybe not a Gherkin, I am not sure that would survive the trip to Losum.
