Saint Patricks night, somewhere in Hamburg’s red light district. ..
Following the untimely event of the Frauline succumbing to my imported cold, I embarked on my first German ‘girls night out’.. Later in the eve, I found humans on the same gender of which to converse with. We eventually got to exchanging opinions about the comparative respective merits of the current architectural state of London verses Hamburg.
Having spent a few days in London and more days in Hamburg I stated to my drinking fellow that I though that Hamburg was ‘prettier’ than London. His response was a flat ‘Of course’, delivered in a broken English tone that left no room for comprise. But I have to hand it to him, it’s a beautiful place, well the old stuff is, around 80% was destroyed in WW2. It would have been a sight to behold before the 40s. A lot that has been rebuilt was done in a hurry, people need shelter from the wolves and Northern European winters and all.
Anyway as Conan says, ‘Enough talk’! Have a look yourself.
Town hall in the background, The Inner Alster in the foreground. Note the relative height of all the trees and buildings, orderly and organized.
Bronze Kaiser Wilhelm II a civil or district court of some sort in the bottom I think.
This is great, so here is the Criminal Court....
....and here is the prison at the back! Brilliant. Next to both of these is...a private Law school. The Machine rolls on.
1 x Church
More later.
